The Cabrini Movement launched on January 14, 2014 after Mother Cabrini High School ("MCHS"), a 115 year-old institution located in Northern Manhattan and dedicated to the secondary education of young women, announced that it would close at the end of this academic year. This movement consists of the terrific students currently enrolled, parents, and alumnae with the support of state and local politicians.
The original goal of this campaign was to prevent MCHS's closing. On January 27th, representatives of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (the "Sisters") met with the Cabrini Movement™ and concerned alumnae, to confirm that the imminent closing of MCHS was a final decision.
The goal of this campaign is simple: Help the 200-plus current students of MCHS complete their education as they started it.
The school has confirmed that a sum of $300,000 will successfully transfer the students who are currently on non-transferable scholarships to another parochial school. Deadlines for enrollment of other schools are fast approaching, so we need your help now.
Your donation will continue a legacy of moving young women from culturally diverse backgrounds to strong careers and futures. Securing these girls with the education they need is the first and most urgent step of this campaign. The Cabrini Movement™ has no intentions of stopping there, however. With the blessing and cooperation of the Sisters and the school's administration, the movement is taking the necessary steps to establish a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in order to aggressively continue its fundraising efforts.
Traits of a MCHS Graduate:
The MCHS graduate is someone who is a problem solver and critical thinker in all academic disciplines. We have Ivy League graduates, CEOs, award-winning filmmakers, educators, attorneys, and doctors in our ranks. MCHS prepares the future leaders of our world.
The MCHS graduate is someone who thinks and acts on the universal values of good character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. These traits are what led us to begin this mission.
Through out the 115 year history of MCHS the school has been dedicated to educating young women from culturally diverse backgrounds. This has helped create generations of strong female leaders.
We've banded together alumnae, students and parents to ensure Mother Cabrini's legacy of service continues through all the lives she has touched.
How to Help
What We Need & What You Get
We still need to raise $100,000 in 30 days. 75% of the students are currently on financial aid, paid for by the Sisters and most schools are not honoring these scholarships. Please visit our Indiegogo page, which you can find here. As MCHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, your gift is 100% tax-deductible.
Your gift will be a great boost to our efforts. Your donation will ensure that a legacy more than a century old will continue in New York City.
